Hi! My name is Jenn Denninger. I am from Long Island and recently moved to Manhattan. I am currently a first grade assistant teacher in Manhattan, New York. This is my second year teaching. Last year I was the head teacher of a Universal Pre-Kindergarten class on long island. I recieved my undergraduate degree in childhood education from Towson University in May of 2013. I am currently enrolled in my masters degree at Hunter College. I am studying early childhood education because I focused on childhood education in undergraduate and wanted to learn more about early childhood. After teaching a Universal Pre-Kindergarten class I decided to continue my education in this field. I still keep in touch with my prior teachers and have observed in their classrooms in the past years. I am certified to teach birth through 6th grade in New York State.
Being in a school five days a week, has allowed me to gain a passion for teaching and compassion for students. In such a short period of time, my school became my home away from home. The students and I have established a great connection, which has energized me to bring creative ideas, and enthusiasm each day to the classroom. I have been exposed to a large variety of different cultures and backgrounds that I have been able to adapt and connect to my rigorous lessons that I execute daily. Diversity is a huge component in a teaching profession. I respect and celebrate many different cultures to make all students feel comfortable while at school. I also incorporate technology and differentiation in my lessons. By differentiating, I enjoy the challenge of helping below grade level, on grade level, and above grade level students thrive to success. Daily routine and constant on going feedback are extremely important tasks that need to be done in a classroom to help students complete and focus on the tasks at hand. I have had the opportunity to work with diversity, multiculturalism, behavior plans, a variety of subject areas, parents and professional development. I have taught in pre-kindergarten, first grade, and third grade. I have worked with students who have Individualized Education Plans and 504 plans. Throughout all of my different placements I have learned that student engagement, motivation and involvement are all key components to providing a successful learning environment for all students.
Over the years, I have been an active member of different schools by taking leadership positions. I have participated in multiple before and after school programs to help both the students and the community. I created and held a before school Math club for below level students to help them improve their Math skills. By the end of the club all of the students improved by at least 15%. The largest improvement was 65%.
As you can see I have a history of a well rounded educational background with a lot of diversity, technology, and differentiation experience. This will benefit me to serve students in the future. I want to enhance and better the learning process for students by creating a classroom for students to succeed.
