AARON SCHOOL
According to the schools website Aaron School opened in 2003 on 45th Street, as a nursery and early elementary school for students with special needs. In 2009, Aaron Academy, a middle school and high school that focused on student strengths, opened its doors at 30th Street. In 2012, Aaron School and Aaron Academy merged under the leadership of the current Head of School, Roberta Palumbo. Over the years Aaron School has grown is now a K-12 educational destination for students with learning, language, attention, social skills and or sensory challenges. This school only serves students with special needs. There are no ICT classes in this school. All of the students have special needs and have IEP's. All of the classes are small, each class ranges from 6-12 students. The school hours are 8:15-3:30. Students are dismissed at 2:30. There are now two Aaron School locations. The lower school campus is located on 45th Street while the upper school campus is on 30th Street. The lower school is the elementary and middle school. Elementary is on the first floor and middle is on the second floor. There is about one class per grade however some grades have two classes. Both school campuses are on the East Side of Manhattan and allow for occasional student, faculty and staff visits. Today, Aaron School provides integrated academic, enrichment, and therapeutic services to children in grades K‐12, with the goal of enabling each student to become a confident and successful learner. Offering an academically rigorous curriculum aligned with the New York State Learning Standards, Aaron employs an individualized approach to ensure student success while preparing them for successful post-secondary educational experiences and professional careers. Aaron School is an independent school that is accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools as well as by NIPSA – National Independent Private Schools Association. From being in and observing in this school their philosophy is clear. Students follow a schedule that is beneficial for their learning. The students are learning and or playing all day long. The enriching programs that the school uses gives all students the best education possible; while putting all students needs first. The school differentiates a lot and makes sure that all students’ needs’ are met so that the students can succeed. Through hands on activities, manipulatives, and experimentation students are engaged, motivated and encouraged to do their best. Students are given a huge amount of support from the amazing staff. |
